a Westering Adventure
© 2006 London Frontier Theatre Company - Reprint Permission Granted
Magdalena – It’s an exciting time in America: 1922, start of the Roaring Twenties and last gasp of the Frontier, with Eastern Society and Art adopting the Wild West. There are almost 40,000 miles of automobile roads in the United States – most unpaved, of course, but some intrepid automobilists have driven all the way from one coast to the other, and many Easterners are answering the Call of the West – Land of Adventure and Romance, of strong, silent Cowboys and stalwart Indians. But all is not always as pictured in Zane Grey novels and the films of William S. Hart.
Elsbeth Westering and niece Daisy, two Truly Amazing Women, bravely set off from Chicago (without an escort, or even a driver!) in The Beast, their luxurious Pierce Arrow touring car, to experience New Mexico, Land of Sunshine – definitely “enchanted”, though yet to be known by that adjective – with its vivid landscapes and exotic “foreign” culture. In this glorious freedom, Daisy, a dedicated New Woman, throws convention to the winds and uncovers – among other things – her Primal Creative Soul, while Elsbeth pursues the written word – in the person of a flamboyant writer – as they venture northward to Taos and explore Art, Passion, Primitive Tradition – and absolutely dreadful roads.
GIVE ME YOUR ANSWER, DO! continues this wild and witty comment on an era, which introduced Daisy and Elsbeth in RACING THE MOON. Each episode of the “Westering” (mis-) adventures is a complete play in itself.
Performers include Janice Brunacini, Vanessa QuiZones, Donna Todd, Donald Wiltshire, and Bennie Zamora, all of Magdalena, and Patrick Richard of Lemitar. LFTC Tech Director Don Wiltshire is set and lighting designer. Script and direction are by Donna Todd; Michael Mideke is videographer.
London Frontier Theatre, now in its eleventh season in Magdalena, has created and presented over 40 productions, including 10 episodes of the popular “LOST WIFE CREEK” series, set in rural New Mexico in the Great Depression era. LFTC offers a variety of plays from original scripts, ensemble work, and adaptations of literary classics and contemporary writings, incorporating the area's vivid multi-cultural history to create exciting, entertaining theatre.
Performances of GIVE ME YOUR ANSWER, DO! are Friday, March 24th and Saturday, March 25th, both at 7:00 P.M., with a Sunday, March 26th, matinee at 2:00 P.M., and to please many of our loyal attendees who have requested “extended runs”, again on Saturday, April 1st, 7:00 PM, and Sunday, April 2, 2:00 PM.
