Steppin' Out is pleased to announce the launch of a new Cameo web site for Julie Cottom's School of Dance of Socorro. The www.JulieCottom.com (http://www.juliecottom.com/) site includes 40 videos featuring the school's students performing at the Macey Performing Arts Center last summer. The videos are in two separate galleries designed for dialup users (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/showgallery.php/cat/527) or DSL/Broadband users (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/showgallery.php/cat/528) on the site.

Julie Cottom's school has been training Socorro children, teens and youth in dance, gymnastics and the performing arts for 25 years. In that time, the school has become a loved and respected performing arts training center and has helped hundreds of local children and youth learn, grow and develop in ways only performing before large audiences can provide.

The confidence and skills gained by our youth from this training serves them well in life and helps them achieve great things as they grow. The school accepts students age 2 or older and it's not unusual for Cottom's dancers to head off to college with 16 years of training and dance experience to their credit.

The training provided by the school has helped many Socorro youth receive invitations to perform and compete on a national level. The school sponsors, and trains an elite team of dancers called the "No Limits" team. Like Socorro's much loved Lady Warriors, the "No Limits" team performs and competes at dance venues on a statewide and national level. It is quite common for No Limits team members to be invited to perform in competitions as far away as New York, Florida and California.

Johnnie Trujillo

In recent years, the school's most talked about student has been young Johnnie Trujillo who at age 9 is already winning awards and being invited to competitions as far away as California. Indeed, Miss Trujillo did quite well in the Hollywood Vibe Dance Competition last summer.

There's no question Johnnie is a young dancing prodigy. You'll find it a real treat to see her perform with dancers Nicole Sanchez and Aspen Armijo in Simply Sweet for dialup users with Windows Media Player (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/showphoto.php/photo/1071/cat/527) or RealPlayer (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/data/527/simplysweet_056kr.ram) or for broadband and DSL users with Windows Media Player (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/showphoto.php/photo/1081/cat/528) or RealPlayer (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/data/528/simplysweet_150kr.ram). Johnnie also performs with Aspen Armijo in "I Can't Do It Alone" for dialup users with Windows Media Player (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/showphoto.php/photo/1067/cat/527) or RealPlayer (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/data/527/I_Cant_Do_It_Alone_056kr.ram) or for broadband and DSL users with Windows Media Player (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/showphoto.php/photo/1077/cat/528) or RealPlayer (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/data/528/I_Cant_Do_It_Alone_150kr.ram). To see more examples of dances from these young ladies and 77 other Julie Cottom students, please visit www.JulieCottom.com (http://www.juliecottom.com/) or click one of the following links to visit their dialup video gallery (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/showgallery.php/cat/527) or their broadband video gallery (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/pp-514/showphoto.php/photo/1080/cat/528).

Aspen Armijo, Nicole Sanchez and Johnnie Trujillo

Although Johnnie may be the youngest Cottom dancer to achieve such fame, she is certainly not the only star dancer from the school. In recent years, No Limits team members have been invited to perform in several distant locations. In fact the list of Cottom dancers who are invited to perform in far-away places is quite impressive. Like the over-stuffed trophy case that sits in the school's studio, it speaks loudly about how well Julie trains her students. We don't have a full list and couldn't cover them all if we did. But the school's list of star dancers includes the pretty and talented Aspen Armijo, Sammy Vivian and 2005 Socorro grad Nicole Sanchez as well.

Since the Cottom School is all about dancers and gymnasts, Steppin Out chose to make 40 videos of live performances by the school's dancers and gymnastic performers recorded last June the centerpiece of the new www.JulieCottom.com (http://www.juliecottom.com/) web site and galleries. These videos were shot at the "Rock This Town" dance recital on June 11, 2005. They were provided by Socorro video producer Platt Labs (www.PlattLabs.com (http://www.plattlabs.com/)) for our use. Platt Labs recorded the original performance and produced a DVD that was distributed to parents and families of the students and offered to provide these videos for the site.

The new Julie Cottom Cameo web site is chock full of videos because it was designed to feature the skills and talents of the school's dancers. Our thanks to Julie for working with us on this project. We hope you enjoy her new web site!
