For the month of April at the NMSU-A Townsend Library, members of The Enchanted Quilter's Guild will have a display featuring "Cruise Challenge" quilts.
The challenge was inspired after reading Fons and Porter's For the Love of Quilting Magazine. Some ocean cruises cater to quilters and during the cruise quilters can participate in a challenge. One that became a particular favorite takes a specified amount of fabric cut into specific shapes. The Guild members decided to organize a "faux cruise" and spent a day pretending they were out at sea. They could only bring the required five, half-yard pieces (each a different color), which they cut into squares and triangles. Each quilter had to cut the same pieces and was challenged to come up with their own design. The size and look of each quilt is different due to the colors and placement of the pieces.
