AVANCE includes some of the hottest young players on the San Francisco salsa music scene today. Directed by longtime Santana percussionist Karl Perazzo, 13 piece AVANCE is the top salsa band in the San Francisco Bay Area and features four electrifying singers in Luis Morales, Jeff Cordoba, Jimmy Flores and band co-founder Armando Cordoba. AVANCE is known for its dominating horn section and one of the best rhythm sections on the West Coast.
AVANCE’s musical productions include three CDs with another on the way in 2007. The band fuses the diverse strains of salsa from Puerto Rico, Cuba, New York and Colombia, with an occasional sampling of R&B/Pop.
Born and raised in a musical family in San Francisco's Mission District, self-taught Karl Perazzo has played percussion since age 2. At age 7 he played in a band that his mother and father formed, and was playing with Cal Tjader while only in the 6th grade. Perazzo has gone on to play with the best in Pop, Jazz, Rock and Latin Music. He is currently playing with the Santana Band, with which he has recorded 3 albums.
Perazzo has also recorded and performed with Malo, Jorge Santana, Cal Tjader, Dizzy Gilespie, Andy Narrel, Ray Obiedo, Tom Coster, Pete and Coke Escovedo, Dennis Chambers, Sheila E., The Artist, Mariah Carey, Paquito D' Rivera and is on the latest John Lee Hooker album.
