New Mexico Symphony Orchestra opens year of dance, theater , film and music from traditional to innovative contemporary sounds from around the world


Socorro, NM - There's plenty to celebrate this year during the New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series. The new season starts in September with the return to Socorro of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and continues with music, theater and dance with enough variety to fill everyone's preference list.

Wednesday, Sept. 12 - The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra will perform Beehovan's 9th Symphony accompanied by the NMSO Chorus, performances specifically requested by a group of Socorroans to the state's premiere symphony orchestra.


Thursday, Sept. 27 - Celebrate an era of love and rock 'n roll with the fun-filled production, Beehive, the 60's Musical! With 8 wailing women, 1 hot band, 45 wigs, 40 costumes, 25 cans of hairspray a week and over 40 of the greatest 60's hits, it takes you on a journey through the look, the sounds and the feel of the times. Friday, Oct. 5 - In conjunction with the bi-annual Trinity Site Open House, NMTPAS brings Geo-Cinema's "10 Questions for the Dalai Lama." The film depicts a journey filmmaker Ray made to the monastery of the Dalai Lama where he was allowed a 45 minute audience with the holiest man in the Buddhist faith; and describes the sturggles and history of the Tibetan people.<img src=http://sonewmex.com/images/dalailamapas_web.jpg align=right hspace=4>

Their songs celebrating life will inspire you to let loose and dance away at the start of the annual Socorro Fest weekend.


Friday, Oct. 26 - Break! Comes to Socorro. The Urban Funk Spectacular featurs top-notch dancers performing acrobatics, spins, robotics and vocal percussion to trave hip-hop history.


Friday, Nov. 16 - Daughter of the legendary Cab Calloway, Chris Calloway's classic jazz woos audiences with her smooth voice and delectible tunes.


Friday, Dec. 7 - The 2007 year ends with Barrage, the high-octane fiddle-fest of music, song, dance and seasonal favorites.


2008 brings Grammy-nominated folk-blues troubadour Greg Brown, (Feb. 2), the Madcap Variety Show (Feb. 22), Cava, a new style jazz with Cumbia, Salsa and ska; and Shidara Taiko, traditional Japanese drumming.
