BANQUET IN THE BOSQUE: Sept. 8th, 6 pm - 10 pm

You won't want to miss this 25th anniversary celebration and fundraiser to benefit the Rio Grande Nature Center's education and restoration programs sponsored by the Friends of the Rio Grande Nature Center. This twilight dinner beneath the cottonwoods includes live music by the Apple Mountain Strings and Things band, a cash bar, and a silent auction. A wide range of auction items will appeal to all tastes, including wildlife art and photography by well-known artists, limited selection wine, theater and symphony tickets.
Following dinner, Tom Waddell, retired biologist and supervisor of Ted Turner's Armendaris Ranch, will present a program covering the ranch's history and wildlife programs, including the rehabiliation of the Aplomado Falcon. According to an August 3, 2006 U.S. Fish & Wildlife News Release -- Falcons were part of the landscape of the Armendaris many years ago. "When Ted Turner acquired the land, he told me 'I want you to put it back the way it was,'" said Mr. Waddell. A May, 10, 2007 Peregrine Fund article notes that, "The Armendaris Ranch was the site of an Aplomado release in New Mexico, a new region for reintroduction. Tom Waddell has been particularly attentive in observing the behavior of the young falcons throughout the year. Tom has reported an extraordinarily high survival rate and some interesting observations of Aplomados interacting with each other and other species such as Golden Eagles and Red-tailed Hawks."
A tour of the Ranch with Tom Waddell is one of the auction items that will undoubtedly engender heated bidding. Tickets for the Banquet in the Bosque event are $50 ($25 is tax-deductible).
