“Dinos Alive”, the new special exhibit sponsored by the International Space Hall of Fame Foundation, met with roaring success when it opened at the White Sands Mall in Alamogordo in January. “From the moment the doors opened, there was a constant line of kids, parents and grandparents,” said Museum Director Randall Hayes. “We are very pleased with the community’s response to the exhibit and can’t say enough about the support of the business community who helped us bring this to Alamogordo,” he added. Over the first three days of the exhibit, more than 2300 people attended. Several area schools have booked tour groups through the exhibit and more are expected. “To date,” Hayes said, “we have well over 3,000 students coming to visit the exhibit and we get more calls every day.”
“Local businesses, especially the media, have been very supportive of “Dinos Alive”,” said Museum Marketing Director Cathy Harper. According to Harper, the White Sands Mall donated use of the space inside of the mall for the exhibit, Comfort Inn & Suites provided a week of lodging for the dino tech who came to assist in the installation and Pueblo Homes pitched in to assist with construction inside the mall. “We would also like to thank the City of Alamogordo and the City Promotion Board for helping us,” added Harper. All local media sponsored the event, including: Alamogordo Daily News, Burt Broadcasting (94Key, KZZX 105.3 FM, COOL FM 107.9, KINN 1270 AM News/Talk), WP Broadcasting (Coyote Country 92.7 FM, STEALTH 103.7 FM, KRSY 1230 AM News/Talk), KUPR FM 91.7 FM, KH11 88.9 FM, and www.everythingalamogordo.com (http://www.everythingalamogordo.com).
“Dinos Alive!” is a major fundraising event for the International Space Hall of Fame Foundation’s education programs. “All the profit from this event will go back into the Foundation’s education programs,” said Hayes, “allowing us to expand and enhance already successful programs such as Shuttle Camp and other outreach activities."
The exhibit is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, Sundays noon to five. It will be on display through April 27, 2008. Special arrangements for tour groups and after hours activities can be made through the Museum’s Education Department.
The New Mexico Museum of Space History is a division of the NM Department of Cultural Affairs. Admission to the museum is $3.00 for adults, $2.75 for seniors and military personnel, $2.50 for children four to twelve years old, and under four free.
