The 2009 Fiesta will be the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council's 7th biennial celebration of the fiber arts. All New Mexican fiber artists are eligible and invited to participate in this show.

The images included with this article and in the attached Fiber Art Gallery are works of the 2009 fiber artist whose art is currently being featured on the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta's web site, www.fiberartsfiesta.org (http://www.fiberartsfiesta.org). The featured artist who graciously agreed to allow Steppin' Out to display a few of her works as part of this initial Call for Artists is Dorothy Bunny Bowen of Placitas. Her impressive art represents the caliber of art the Fiber Arts Fiesta believes will be exhibited in the 2009 show.

Alert Steppin' Out readers and art lovers will recall that Ms Bowen's beautiful silk painting titled "In the Desert Even the Mountains Dance for Rain" was one of two featured images on the cover of the August - September '08 issue of Steppin' Out. Believe it or not, that's pure coincidence. Our cover art selections for the August - September issue were made in early July. When we chose Ms Bowen's painting to appear on that cover we had no idea she would soon be appearing on our pages again. That just goes to show Steppin' Out has a good eye for great art, right? :D Ms Bowen is an internationally recognized rozome artist who lives in Placitas. As the 2009 Fiber Art Fiesta's Featured Artist she will be on site during the Fiesta displaying her art in a show titled, “Out of Time: Ten Thousand Days with a Brush”. This will be a rare chance to view an extraordinary body of work and visit with an amazing artist who also teaches others! For more details about Dorothy Bowen and her art, see our August - September article, check out the fiber arts Fiesta's web article and visit Bowen's site at: www.db-bowen.com (http://steppinoutnewmexico.com/viewarticle.php?op=visit&articleid=663)

To encourage early registration for the Fiber Arts Fiesta, Steppin' Out plans to expand this gallery with sample works from a few of the early-entering artists in January 2009. Artists who have registered for the Fiber Arts Fiesta and are interested in submitting a selection of their works for display in this gallery should contact Steppin Out by calling 575.838.0784 or emailing TGPlatt@SONewMex.com after submitting their Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta entry form. To display their works here, each artist will need to provide proof of entry (a copy of your entry form or payment receipt is acceptable) and high-quality digital images of your art. This gallery is neither sanctioned nor sponsored by the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta or the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council. It is a free service offered by Steppin' Out to encourage artists to register early for the Fiber Arts Fiesta. Steppin' Out's offer to feature fiber art in this gallery expires on January 9, 2009. All submissions must be received by that date. Read the Fiesta's Exhibit Entry Form (http://www.fiberartsfiesta.org/2009%20Fiesta%20Exhibit%20Entry.htm) for full details. Deadline for entries is March 1, 2009, for works completed since March 1, 2007. The Fiesta anticipates over 500 juried and judged entries in its exhibits area plus at least 50 vendors in the Vendor Mall as well. The Fiesta encourages interested vendors to not delay in applying for boothspace. November 30 is the first deadline. Click Vendor Contract Form (http://www.fiberartsfiesta.org/vendors.htm) to download an application.

Their goal is to attract dozens of New Mexico's most talented and creative fiber artists for the 2009 event. Therefore, they formally invite Fiber Artists from throughout the state to submit a selection of their works for judging and exhibit in this Fiber Arts Only show. For this Fiesta, 16 local fiber art guilds will be co-sponsors of the exhibits and volunteering for the committees.

Fiber Arts Fiesta fees are just $5.00 per entry. There will be no charge for display of your works in the Steppin' Out gallery. The gallery is our contribution to the Fiesta and to the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council's Fundraising efforts. The Fiesta is the major fundraiser for the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council, Inc., a non-profit educational organization which promotes fiber art in the community.

Once again, the entry deadline is March 1, 2009.
