Socorro – Socorro County Arts opened its members gallery in May. The gallery is located one block north of Hwy. 60 on Center St and just north of the Police Station, in the Finley Gym Complex.

SCA members spent countless hours in extensive renovations, turning the 50s-era classroom into a showcase for members art. Beautifully refinished wood floors, high ceilings and a wall of south-facing windows make this an attractive venue for the local artists’ works.

Artists currently exhibiting include Grace Wilson, oils; Tom Mandeville, oils and watercolors; Georgia Raymond, oils, watercolors, clay; Margaret Middleton, textiles, Dona Nowicki, stained glass; Georgette Grey, watercolor; A. Leon Miler, paintings in various media; Olaf Heintz, woodwork; Jim Kolbenschlag, wood; Al Blascz, sculpture; and Karyn DeBont and Beverly Hanson, painters whose works have graced covers of Steppin’ Out.

The gallery is open Fridays from noon to 6 pm; Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm and Sunday from noon to 3 pm. For more information, call Deborah Dean at the Socorro Visitors and Heritage Center, 835-8927.
