Tomé, NM – The potters of Tomé Gallery (mad or otherwise), are holding their annual pottery show at the Tome Gallery May 3rd through May 17th. Many tea related items – tea bowls, tea pots, tea bag holders, tea caddies, mugs, tea sets, sugar and creamers, plates, pitchers, and 3-tiered serving plates – made by local potters will be featured.
The Tomé Art Gallery is located at 2930 Highway 47 between Belen and Los Lunas. Call 505-565-0556 for additional information.
The opening reception tea is Sunday May 3rd from 2 – 4, again in the delightful garden of Del Chavez, directly behind the gallery. A sumptuous high tea with refreshments (fresh strawberries and cream, scones, tea sandwiches and much more) awaits, served in elegant, hand-made ceramics and pottery. Belen guitarist Noe Lara provides the musical addition.
This year, the potters will exhibit a silent auction all day on May 3rd. The unique, handcrafted local art will be displayed in the studio at the gallery for preview and your chance to own some at extraordinary – shall we say, mad a/k/a crazy! – prices.
“Our demonstrations of horsehair and raku firings as well as burnishing were so successful last year that we have given them their own special day on Saturday, May 9th from 10am -5pm,” says potter Jan Pacifico.
Numerous other demonstrations and hands-on experiences in clay have been added to the schedule for May 9.
The exhibit of the work of these extraordinary clay artists continues May 3rd -17th at Tome Gallery.
“We are also expanding the scope of the show to include garden related items, such as fountains, planters, vases and ollas for irrigation. We have continued to carry an assortment of teas from The Republic of Tea, introduced last year complementing our tea theme.”
