Carrizozo's 16th Annual Street Fair will be held on Monday, September 7, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at McDonald Park in 'Zozo.
Festivities will include:
the Annual Labor Day Street Fair parade starting at 10 a.m.,
live music,
lots of arts and crafts,
a variety of foods,
a cakewalk,
a goathead plant contest,
Mike Lagg's well known obstacle course,
the annual commemorative Street Fair t-shirt, and
this year the birdhouse auction returns to the Fair.
Last year, Ray Dean had been focusing on a humongous goathead plant near the School grounds and was determined to have a contest to see if there was any larger plant around town. This year he's hoping to beat that record!
The cakewalk was also a tremendous success last year, with folks preferring cakes, cupcakes and homemade tortillas, so those will be the items offered this year. And the band will provide the music (and comments) for the cakewalk.
There will be activities for kids of all ages: the Jumping Bear tent, the bean toss and Mike Lagg's awesome obstacle course (no one knows yet what interesting changes he'll make this year ).
Several different groups will provide music, all of whom are returning for repeat performances because they were so well liked in the past!
Because the Street Fair is a main fundraiser for scholarship awards (four were made this year for $2,500), there will be a separate event especially for adding to these awards: the annual motorcycle poker ride will be held on Saturday, August 8. Riders will start at McDonald Park and end at the Outpost for a raffle and rally.
The other venue that provides scholarship funding, the annual birdhouse auction, will return on Labor Day Monday as part of the Fair's festivities. Completed birdhouses will be available around town as they are ready for viewing in a silent auction, then be featured in the parade and finally available for auction at the Fair.
So, come join the fun and festivities and take home a Street Fair t-shirt as a fond memory of your day! Questions? Call J'Lane Zamora at 575-648-2802.
