Border Jazz Quintet of Las Cruces

On Sunday, July 16, there'll be a concert by the popular Border Jazz Quintet from Las Cruces at 6:00-8:00pm. The concert will be held on the lawn of the historic Luna County Courthouse at the corner of Gold and Ash. A pair of music samples of Border Jazz Quintet can be found here:

Syd Masters and the Swing Riders

On Sunday, July 30, Syd Masters and his Swing Riders will also play in the park. The Masters band has a completely different sound from the Border Jazz group -- offering toe-tapping music with a yodeling cowboy western flair; but they are certainly just as listenable! Here are two sound clips from one of their CDs:

Cowboys On The Moon (http://www.sydmasters.com/cowboysonthemoon.html)

Again, you'll find more music samples on their web site at: www.sydmasters.com (http://www.sydmasters.com/)

Come with your family and enjoy these FREE, non-alcoholic events!

You can sit, dance or even tap your feet if you like, in the shade of tall elm and cottonwood trees that surround the gazebo where the bands play. The Court House, built in 1910, is the most impressive structure in town with its clock tower and Greek portico. It's also famous for holding one of the trials for Pancho Villa's men after the 1916 raid on Columbus, and four of his men were hanged on these grounds. Things have gotten a lot tamer since then, and these should be relaxing, fun shows.
