Welcome to Steppin' Out New Mexico and if you're a registered member, thanks for registering. As WebMaster, I try to make it a point to welcome each new registered user to our community personally.
I hope you find the site a fun and interesting place to spend time. As a registered user, you'll find there's a ton of arts information and thousands of art images on our site and literally hundreds of handy features here for you to use too. In addition to a handy (members-only) private message system, you'll discover you can easily forward any article here to friends via email. Plus, there's a nice greeting card system that lets you turn any image in our galleries into a personalized electronic greeting card. If you wish, you can also create your own photo / art gallery and upload images to it for others to enjoy. I won't try to list all the features. That would take hours. Suffice it to say there's a very long list of nice features here. Feel free to enjoy and use them all. We put them here for your use.
Anonymous/Unregistered visitors will find you're able to access almost all parts of the site. However, for all intents and purposes, you cannot post messages anywhere here and many of the other features described above will not be available to you either.
There's even a "classifieds" section where you can post things you want to sell or services you offer to provide to others. If you're a single adult looking for a partner, there's a personals section in our classified area available for your use.
If you live in New Mexico, you'll also find our Community Forums fun places to visit. You can find our Community Forum entrances in the center column of our front page (about 1/2 way down) or you can go straight to our Forums section and you'll find them there as well. We provide Community Forums and event calendars for 40 communities scattered around the state. Please feel free to post in your community forum about events and happenings in your town. We also host a large set of "news" forums. You're welcome to post articles and stories there for events you feel are worthy of statewide attention.
Perhaps I should explain that unregistered users are not permitted to post messages here and even for registered users all posts are moderated. That's a fancy way of saying posts don't show up until we approve them. We're not playing censor or God here. You're free to post whatever and wherever you like. All we try to do is try to make sure the items posted are:
In the appropriate place,
NOT profane or obscene (we're a family-safe site), and
Are not ads for Viagra, Cialis, body part enlargement, weight loss, purses from China, appeals from foreign criminals to help get their stolen money out of US accounts, or other similar spam.
Other than that, we normally approve everything that gets posted here within hours.
You'll be pleased to know we take our responsibility to keep spammers away from this site very seriously. In fact, we have a no-mercy, zero tolerance policy for spam here. Users who try to post spam on this site are immediately banned from ever posting again AFTER we delete the offending post, that is.
In short, there's nothing that happens here that we don't watch. That's why we require registration before letting anyone post. The registration system, our moderation tools AND the fact that joining requires all users to verify their email address are the tools we use to keep spammers away from this site. For repeat offenders, we report unacceptable activity to the spammer's Internet Service Provider. And when ISPs fail to take action, we've been known to block all access to our site from that ISP. In fact, we recently found it necessary to block all access from all users on 150,000 websites in Western Europe to keep spammers entering through that provider from ever visiting this site again. The way we see it, we don't know many Europeans who attend New Mexico arts events anyway!
To help us fight spam, we ask that you never post your email address "in the clear" here. In short, we advise you never to say something like:
"...contact me at spamme@myhost.com."
Doing that is an open invitation for someone to put you on their spam list. That is one of the many benefits of registering here. We deliberately HIDE your email address from other users which helps you avoid getting added to spam lists! :)
If you ever have any questions or problems here, feel free to write to me personally. You can send me email here (http://www.steppinoutnewmexico.com/forums/sendmessage.php?do=mailmember&u=1).
Thanks again for joining Steppin' Out. We hope you'll find our site a fun place to spend time and that you'll feel free to contribute here as well. In fact, we actively encourage you to participate and help us keep www.SONewMex.com (http://www.sonewmex.com/) one of the best arts, entertainment and tourism sites on the World Wide Web!
