The 26th Annual Pie Festival will be held on September 9, 2006, at Jackson Park in Pie Town. Jackson Park is one of Pie Town’s favorite meeting spots and a *free* campground. The park is located on Highway 60 across from the Post Office and "Wood Hue Gallery", which hosts a nice collection of wooden and southwest art that all festival visitors should see.
If you haven't heard the story of Pie Town, it's located on the continental divide on U.S. highway 60. So naturally, their village motto is "It's all down hill from here!" Eighty years ago, back in the 20's when cross country travel was an adventure on a scale we can't even imagine today, a Texican named Clyde Norman settled there and started baking and selling Apple Pies from his shop on what was then known as the "Coast to Coast" highway. Norman's place soon became famous for making and selling the best pies anywhere. The thousands of travellers and truckers who crossed through the area eventually did the rest... putting Pie Town on the map as the home of the most delicious pies in America. The rest, as they say, is history. For nearly three-quarters of a century now Pie Town has been known as the place along highway 60 to take a much-needed travel break and stop off for a world class piece of pie.

The Pie Town Pie Festival was started 26 years back as a way to help fund their local free Jackson Park where many weary travellers stop to spend the night. The Pie Festival is a popular event that attracts thousands to this small New Mexican community. The festival serves breakfast to visitors and includes pie eating and baking contests, a western pit BBQ & bean dinner, artists, vendors, bingo, music and more… including a dance in the evening. Plus, of course, they still bake, serve and sell the world's tastiest pies!
The festival is sponsored by Pie Town Council in support of the Pie Town Community Park, the Community Center and the Pie Town Benevolent Society. See the link below to visit the Festival web site. But whatever you do, don't miss this chance to visit New Mexico's high-country and enjoy the cool mountain air along with the best piece of pie this side of the pearly gates! We promise your taste buds and tummy will thank you for it.
