Mountainair Plans Poet's Weekend

Sat. Aug. 26, in Mountainair, NM, the 9th annual Poets & Writers Picnic held outdoors at the historic Shaffer Hotel, 103 E. Main St. in their Gazebo garden, 12 noon to 5 pm. during the town of Mountainair's Sunflower Folk Art Day. This is a free event sponsored by the Manzano Mountain Arts Council, hosted by Dale Harris, a full afternoon of featured poets & writers, music with an open mic interspersed. Spread a blanket, bring a picnic lunch, or enjoy local restaurants - sorry, you can't bring your dogs or other pets onto the grassy area though, hitch 'em outside the gate.
Featured poets at this year's Poets & Writers Picnic are Greg Candela, Robert Arthur "Bob" Reeves, Outlaw Poets John Macker and Todd Moore, the Wild Women of Santa Fe - Mary Mcginnes, Rachelle Woods, Leslie Bentley, Bobby Bermea, Elizabeth Raby and Debbi Brody. Featured writers are travel writer Margaret Nava and novelists Kate Horsley and Jeffrey Poston. Music performers are Gerard Bezzeg, Greg Candela, Frank Melcori and David "Apple" Baker. Concurrent with the Poets & Writers Picnic is a Sunflower Poetry Writing Workshop Aug. 25-26 at the Shaffer Hotel, taught by Dr. Greg Candela and Dale Harris. Participants stay at the hotel at a special workshop rate. Sessions are Fri. evening, Sat. morning with an optional wrap session after the Poets & Writers Picnic. Fee of $50. covers writing sessions only.
