The Wild Women of Santa Fe rode into Mountainair at high noon on Saturday, Aug. 26, alighting at the Shaffer Hotel for the annual Poets and Writers Picnic. They were eager listeners and presenters and it was obvious they were enjoying the afternoon in the high country.

Here’s what Poet Dale Harris writes about the group:

The Wild Women of Santa Fe are a fabulous group of poets who meet every other week to share luscious poems, exchange new and strange words, and write, write, write! In their various styles, the seven poets support and complement one another as their works weave and mingle into delightful lyrical concoctions!

Leslie Bentley is a true "rock nerd" and is addicted to collecting rocks and making jewelry with stone beads and crystals. She is also a Reiki practitioner, adores hiking, and is a former professor. Leslie's poetry has been published in Bulkhead and The Nebraska Territory.

Bobby Bermea is a an award winning professional actor, playwright and poet. He has performed in bars and slams throughout the Pacific Northwest and made his southwest debut at Poetry Jam 2006. He is an artistic associate with Sojourn Theatre and a member of Actors Equity. He has also spent his entire life as an artist working with kids in a variety of capacities. Bobby is a part of this group because nothing fascinates him more than the mystery of women.

Debbi Brody co-owns and operates Canyon Road Contemporary Art, in Santa Fe, NM . She publishes frequently in Central Avenue Poetry. Her work has appeared in the Santa Fe Literary Review, Broomweed Journal, Poetica and other national literary magazines. Her latest book, Portraits in Poetry (Village Books Press, 2006), is available through artqueen58@aol.com.

Zoe Dwyer has lived in New Mexico for ten years, during which time she has learned to be a poet, activist, photographer, bookseller and chicken whisperer. Her work has been awarded, scrawled onto gallery walls, and published in numerous poetry journals. She co-hosts monthly Poets for Peace and Open Poetry events in Santa Fe.

Mary McGinnis is a poet, counselor, advocate, salad queen, and happy wild woman living in Santa Fe. Her book, Listening For Cactus is available at Collected Works, and also from her purple back pack. She has recent work in La Herencia del Norte, The Rag, and Central Avenue.

Before moving to Santa Fe, Elizabeth Raby was a Poet in the Schools for the PA and NJ State Councils of the Arts and for the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. Alas, she used to be a lot wilder than she is now, she says.

Rachelle Woods is a contact improv dancer, massage therapist, hot springs lover and second place winner of the Southwest Literary Center's Discovery Award for poetry in 2005. She cohosts monthly Open Poetry and Poets for Peace readings in Santa Fe.
