Village Plans Festival of Lights Extravaganza

<table><tr><td><b>Ruidoso – November 29, 2006</b>: The stars – especially the electric ones - will shine extra bright in Ruidoso in December as the Festival of Lights Committee conducts their annual holiday lighting contest and several related events surrounding it between Thanksgiving and Christmas. According to Kay Kernodle, a member of the Festival of Lights Committee, Ruidoso puts on the best show in New Mexico with its village-wide celebration which includes visits with Santa, shopping, an annual tree lighting ceremony, horse drawn sleigh-rides, caroling, a fine art show, theater performances, and the Southwest’s largest holiday parade.<br><br>Among the events sponsored (or co-sponsored) by Ruidoso's Festival of Lights committee are the following “Happenings in the Village”.<br><br>Christmas in the Park on Thursday, November 30, features the lighting of the Southwest’s biggest Christmas tree (or is it a Chanukah bush?), holiday music and caroling, sleigh rides and visits with Santa at School House Park early in the evening.<br><br>The Village Faire on Saturday, December 2, is a Renaissance Village open-market which features storytellers, actors, artisans, shopkeepers in period outfits, carolers, food, music, carriage rides and much more. It’s held at River Crossing at Ruidoso, 1800 Sudderth Dr from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. And it’s free!<br><br>Spencer Theater - Sunday, December 3, 1–5:30 p.m. - Santa arrives at 1:00 in a horse-drawn sleigh. The festivities include snacks with Santa, a Ruidoso Community Choir Concert and a Community Sing along.<br><br>Parade of Lights - On Saturday, December 9, the Christmas in the Pines Parade will be the Southwest’s biggest holiday parade. It features floats packed with seasonal decorations and begins at 6:00 p.m.<br><br>Holiday Lighting Contest - On Monday December 11, residents and business owners in Alto, Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs will participate in the lighting competition designed to make Ruidoso the brightest holiday spot in New Mexico. The judges visit the lighted destinations on Monday.
