Wink 'I've arrived!' says Marty Baca

Dec. 6, 2005

"I've arrived!" said Marty Baca over the telephone today.

Marty was calling pengwen to let us know that she had received a call from someone in Ohio who had received a chile ristra from Harold's Southwest Gifts.

"I found your ad on the Steppin Out site on the internet," the caller told Marty.

"So, I've arrived in the internet age. I just wanted to let you know."

Thanks, Marty!

WebMaster's comment:

When I heard this story, I got curious about how the Lady from Ohio had managed to find Harold's listing on Steppin' Out's site. So, I went to Google and typed in, Harold's Southwestern Gifts. Within seconds I had my answer. The first two search results the Google engine displayed for Harold's were the following mentions of them in the Steppin Out Web Portal:

Later that day, I called Pengwen to say, "You might be surprised to hear it was your mom (who passed away last June) that lead that Lady from Ohio to call Harolds. Read the article to see why I said that. And now -- as Paul Harvey would say, you know "the rest of the story". This just goes to prove being an advertiser in Steppin Out really does pay off!

Congratulations, Marty. Welcome to the Internet era and thanks for your support too. We're proud to have your delightful shop as an advertiser on the Steppin Out Web Portal!

Default I've Arrived, Too

Gwen,
I have been a fan of your Steppin' Out newspaper for some time, but only recently did I learn about your website, and I find it extremely useful in so many ways.
First, I use it as a substitute home page. No one can ween me away from Goggle as my home page, but Goggle provides me with the opportunity to bookmark whatever other site I want for quick access. I have put Steppin' Out in that prime position, because of what it offers me -- including national access. I regularly use your NPR Radio index, for example. I seldom get to hear the radio itself, but the stories there are first rate.
Second, it has a local flavor and I never like to access my computer without getting some news on my home town and New Mexico, especially as that news applies to arts and entertainment, and attractions.
Finally, it's a place where I know people can find what I write. The words "Greg Reiche Camino" for example returned this website a top choice, so I know anyone looking for stories on Greg's work on the sculpture at the Camino Real Heritage Center will find my story.
It also looks like a comfortable site to share time with friends, once you get to know it. I've had some time over the holidays and I have spent quite some time browsing around. There's so much here, it takes a little while to see it all, but isn't that true of anything arty and entertaining?
Thanks for your hard work, and that of Webmaster Platt in putting it together. And that's for letting me submit some tales from around New Mexico.
