Mountain Range
by Ann Templeton

June - July 2004

July 9, 10, and 11 bring the return of Lincoln County's Art Loop studio tour.  This annual juried event is fundamental fare for those with a fondness for original art and an affection for rural scenery.

Spanning an area from Carrizozo to Ruidoso Downs and the Hondo Valley, the tour includes  the studios of 21artists in seven communities.  Among those opening their creative spaces to the public are eight artists new to the tour, with painters at six or more locations, ceramics at four studios, and leather, glass, porcelain, fiber, jewelry and wood at others.  For the first time in its eight-year history, Art Loop has expanded to become a three-day event.  Participating artists in this year's tour vary from the nationally renowned to some relatively newer at their crafts, and venues include both urban and rural locales.  Some of the artists also teach, and Art Loop provides a perfect opportunity for those interested in taking art classes to meet with and identify the styles and talents of some potential instructors.

Returning for a third appearance in the Loop is Ann Templeton, of Ruidoso Downs.  Well known for her distinctive painting style, Templeton has received countless awards in both oil and pastel competitions and teaches at seminars across the country and in Mexico and Europe.  In addition to her own paintings, Ann Templeton's territorial style home and garden and her private art collection create a wonderfully inspiring environment for visitors to the studio.

In nearby Glencoe, first-time Art Looper Roy Brown will exhibit his beautifully hand-crafted functional ceramics at Design Origins, his studio by the Rio Ruidoso.
