Reflections by Addie Draper and Chi Caballo by the late John A. Davidson
|
September\October 2003 New Life, New Beauty at Mojave Rose Gallery Pastel artist Addie Draper Mountainair – In a way, Addie Draper has had two artistic lives. A native New Mexican, she graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1975 with a bachelors’ of arts and philosophy. Through her interest in furniture, she became interested in wood turning and was one of the first to develop segmented wood turnings. Examples of her work are in Philadelphia and the Smithsonian’s Renwick Museum, the Las Angeles County Museum and the Albuquerque Museum. Then, Addie developed an allergy to dust, an integral component of wood working. “That’s when I picked up pastels,” says the artist and new owner
of Mojave Rose Gallery. After promoting her work through arts and crafts
shows nationwide, Addie is enjoying the quiet beauty of the gallery just
off the main east-west thoroughfare. Sharing studio space with Addie
Draper is Deb Vetterman, who works in colored pencil. Also showing work at
Mojave during the Manzano Mountain Arts Council’s Gallery and Studio
Tour are Deb Vetterman and Linda Filippi. |
