Dear Sweet Emma - White Sands Film Festival Animation Review
Dear, Sweet Emma
Animation
By: Out of Our Minds Studios
Keith Hobgood is one of the talented animators at Out of Our Minds Studios in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Steppin Out caught up with him at the Taste of Otero County Reception.
Out of Our Minds Studios' startling and funny animation, “Dear, Sweet Emma” -- produced and directed by Loraine and John Cernak -- was created in 2003. It has won dozens of awards and attracted lots of attention since then.
Dear, Sweet Emma is as different from the 2-D cartoons of the 50’s and 60’s as those first animated films were from prehistoric cave drawings. After Emma, the business that gave us Popeye, Cinderella, Snow White, Lion King and Toy Story will never be the same. Walt Disney must have turned over in his grave the day “Emma” was released. “
"We created Emma to show what’s possible and the response has been amazing.” said Hobgood, "So far, it has been very well received and has attracted a lot of great attention to our studio from potential clients and from specialty animation labs like Disney and Pixar."
Clearly, this amazing and funny video raised the bar for animators worldwide and set a new standard for what’s possible in 21st Century animation. For larger images from this video, visit our White Sands Film Festival photo gallery.
