Reflections of Fall, by Valerie Graves
|
November 2003 - January 2004 Reflecting: Steppin’ Out’s cover artist by Skeeter Leard “Reflections of Fall, Cranes at the Bosque del Apache” by Valerie Graves is the Steppin’ Out cover art this issue. It seems this painting truly speaks for itself. You can learn a lot about Valerie Graves from it and from her website, www.BirdSongGallery.com - and there is a lot to learn - but don’t pass up this opportunity to see her work at the Festival of Cranes Wildlife Art Show. It is certainly worth the trip to her Valerie Graves Gallery in the Carson House Shop Patio at Taos,or the Laurel Seth Gallery in Santa Fe. It’s just even more satisfying to see her with the work in this setting that inspires her. She makes the most of the inspiration at Taos, too, and her work is considered reminiscent of the early Taos founders, a very singular distinction. She is included also in the company of R. C. Gorman and Agnes Miller as the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the prestigious Taos Invites Taos Show. In addition to this honor she received Best Traditional Painting Award for 2003, and she’s done it more than once! Her resume and inventory includes etchings, lithographs, and limited edition prints as well as her better-known oil and pastel paintings. There is even a Painted Pony: Taos NEIGHbors. Steppin’ Out appreciates the use of this painting and the opportunity to acquaint our Festival and winter season visitors with our neighbor from up North. |
